Our School Yard

Our yard has changed since just after Easter this year. We now have a new play area with swings, a sea-saw, monkey bars, climbing frames and a play house. We have a new shelter too. It has changing rooms on either end, one for girls and one for boys.

We are very lucky because we have a big schoolyard. We have a basketball court, a tarmaced area where we play soccer if the pitch is wet, an area where we play in the trees and a big football pitch. A few years ago the senior children in the school planted trees in our grounds. They planted ash trees, horse-chestnut trees, beech trees and birch trees. We have great fun learning about them on tree day. From our yard we can see Claran Church, the priest's house and the Connemara mountains.

Our tarmaced area is marked with soccer lines, volleyball lines and basketball lines. There is also a play area for the smaller children, it has hopscotch and lots of other colourful markings. We have soccer posts and two sets of goalposts for Gaelic. We love our playground!

Games we play

We play soccer and Gaelic football. Some people play ‘tip the can’, ‘tag’ or ‘feet off the ground.’ Others make up dances. Basketball is a popular choice among senior classes.

Our Garden of Remembrance

We have a garden remembering Fr. Declan O' Toole. He was past pupil of our school who was killed while working as a missionary priest in Uganda.

May he rest in peace.

Vegetable Garden

This is our vegetable garden. It is nice to be able to see the vegetables grow. We plant onions, cabbage, potatoes, carrots to name but a few.
