FLAG 4: TRAVEL

Travel is the theme of the fourth Green Schools flag. Many children travel to school in 'green' ways such as park 'n' stride, carpool, cycle or walk.

REMEMBER: TRAVEL GREEN AND KEEP THE EARTH CLEAN!

TRAVEL WORK

2018-2019

On the day of the Easter holidays we had a Green Schools Action Day and what fun we had! We were the brightest school in Ireland! All roads leading to Claran were awash with adults and children walking while wearing highlighter colours; pinks, oranges, yellows and greens!  Pupils also attached a green message to their outfits which were based on four of the Green Schools themes-litter and waste, energy, water and transport.

Mammies and Dddies were invited in for a cuppa and some gooddies and they had a look at our projects. Junior classes worked on road safety while senior classes worked on climate change and carbon footprints. The Green Schools committe also ran competitions coming up to Fluorescent Friday. Junior and Senior Infants did a Road Safety colouring competition. 1st and 2nd classes designed green t-shirts. The senior classes became engineers and designed eco-friendly modes of transport.

On top of all that, our assessor, Tiaran, came to visit too! We warned him not to come without his bright clothing and he didn't disappoint!

REMEMBER:

TRAVEL GREEN!

Green Schools

We took part in National Walk to School Week in May and National Bike Week in June.

We worked along side the Active Flag Committee and organised some bike and walking activities during Active Week 2015 one of which was our senior classes enjoying a long cycle to Inchaquinn.

During the last term we completed our cyclability audit (we had planned to carry this out in February but it fell victim to the bad weather).

Children in the senior end of the school enjoyed cycle training through fun and games within the school grounds and then put their learning into practice on a cycle around the local village.

Safety was always paramount so helmets and high vis jackets were compulsory.
