Green Flag

Here in Claran we to do our bit to look after the environment.

We're involved in the Green-Schools programme. Green-Schools is an international environmental education programme and award scheme that promotes and acknowledges long-term, whole-school action for the environment.

This Alder tree arrived just in time for Tree Day on the 8th of October.

Look at the photos below to see it being planted. We also planted an oak tree.

Congratulations everyone on all your hard work!

We have been awarded our fifth Green Flag for our work on Biodiversity.

Biodiversity-The Fifth Green Flag.

The 5th Green Flag is about Biodiversity. We worked hard this year to look after the biodiversity we already have around the school and to encourage more species to live around our school.

On the 4th of May,two teachers and two students from 6th class went to the Galway Bay Hotel to collect the 5th Green Flag.

When we arrived at the hotel, we were each given a green flag bag with a pencil case and badge. We then waited in a long queue to get our photos taken.

Afterwards we found seats and listened to the speeches. Finally, it was our turn to collect the flag. We walked up to the stage and we were given the flag and a certificate. We were then treated to dinner, yum! It was a great day.
