Engineering Week Ireland 2015 takes place from 8th – 14th February. This is our first year being involved in Engineering Week. The national theme this year is Engineering is for Everyone.
Engineering Week is about promoting awareness, appreciation and understanding of engineering in our lives. It is a great opportunity for schools and homes to place an added emphasis on the importance of engineering and how it affects our daily lives. As is stated on the Engineers Week website;
… engineers create the buildings we live in, design medical devices to improve our health, and make the entertainment systems we use. (http://www.engineersweek.ie/)
The theme of our Engineering Week will be Transport. Throughout the week each class will look at different methods of transportation.
The children enjoyed dressing in items of clothing which involved some element of Maths during Maths Week so we hope they’ll enjoy Transport Tuesday where they can wear items of clothing related to some aspect of transport. Please do not feel under any pressure to purchase new clothing, have a root around, borrow, be creative and we’re sure you’ll come up with something!
We are also launching our first Engineering Week Competition for the children. The children will be given a bookmark sized piece of blank card. They should create a bookmark based on the theme Engineering is for Everyone. The bookmark should show how engineering is used every day in everyone’s life.
The closing day for the bookmarks is Wednesday the 11th of February.
Science Open Day:
On Tuesday the children from fourth and fifth will showcase some of their favourite experiments from last year. Please see the timetable at the front door.
We hope the children enjoy Engineering Week-from all in Scoil Naomh Fursa.
A great day was had by all at our first (and from here on out hopefully annual) Science Open Day.
The pupils from fourth and fifth classes spent the day showing the other classes, preschool children and parents a selection of Science experiments and activities. Check out some of the photos from the day.
Well done to everyone on finding, borrowing and especially on making some very inventive transport related outfits for our Transport Tuesday.
